Bell

This photo was taken before Meiji 17. And this buildings is 方広寺 . Take a look at the bell. Today I’m gonna talk about it.This bell has a tragic story. As you know , “Ieyasu Tokugawa” destroyed “Toyotomi family”. And This bell was used as a trigger by Ieyasu. Strictly speaking , he complained about some words what are written on the surface of this bell. “国家安康・君臣豊楽”is what he complained about. I think you know this words. So I’d like to omit the meanings . but ,in fact these words triggered the fall of the Toyotomi family. This is why this bell has a lot of meanings. But this bell was leaved out in the open. So it is curious, isn’t it? And it’s so unforgettable photo.

Don Don Yake

A big fire……”Don Don yake”
As you know, Japanese traditional buildings are made of wood. So these are tend to be burned easily . And if once fire happen ,the fire will start to spread . so the sacrifice could be so many amount , including a lot of humans.
Of course, it’s also happened in Kyoto city. I’d like to explain about one of them, “Don Don yake”. It’s a one of biggest one. In 1864, “Tyousyuu Han”, revolutionary government, were trying to regain the power of government in Kyoto , but it was end up failure. And in these situation, “Ikedaya incident” occurred at Kawaramach Sanjyou, and in this incident, many Tyousyuu Han’s people was killed by government killer ,Shinsengumi. So they made a big decision that they fight with government(Tokugawa shogunate). And then they fought with “Satuma” and “Aizu” in front of Kyouto Gosyo(the Imperial palace) . During this war, Tyousyuu Han set fire to their buildings , and the fire spread so fast. As a result of it , about 20 thousand buildings burned .And this is called “Don Don yake”.
